Wednesday 7th: Dijon to Tournous (100km)

Everything I needed was within 300m of my hotel. The delicous restaraunt where I had Boeuf Bourgone last night, the internet cafe and now the laundry, where I found myself at 8am this morning ready to begin the big wash. Self service laundries attract a select bunch and I wasn't sure that I wanted to fit in with this group. Lots of waiting and staring but no talking. Leaving Dijon at 11am with a whole set of clean clothes was a luxury and enjoyed the fact that this was as far west as I was going to go. I was now at 5 degrees east. A full 11 degress east of Dublin and as a result the sun was setting around 5.15pm instead of the 6.30pm that I would enjoy in southern Spain. From now on my journey was south and west. This would result in progressively longer evenings and warmer tempatures. Warmer tempatures would have to wait as I was about to endure the coldest day of the trip so far. The termometer barely hit five degress for the duration of the day and coupled with a strong wind I found today tough. The road from Dijon to Beaune was lovely as I passed through pretty villages that would have meant more if I had been drinking Cote de Nuits et Cote de Beaune over the last few years. I arrived in beautiful Beaune by lunchtime and continued south towards industrial Chalon sur Saone before calling it a night at Tournus, a pretty village situated along the banks of the Saone. The village was attractive and I found myself a good value 2 star and stocked up in the local Monoprix to enjoy a dried ham and pate dinner in my room before hitting the sheets at an alarmingly early 7.30pm.
