Sunday 11th: Lyon to Vienne (31km)

As ed and george's flight to Dublin was not till after 4pm I was only on the road at about 3pm today. Spent the morning having a look around the city and enjoyed the way they have developed the Rhone quays with cafes, restaraunts and clubs all situated in old boats.
With sunset at 5pm this resulted in about an hour and a half on the road and hence the shortest day so far. Getting out of Lyon was almost as easy as getting in and after a short while I found myself in Vienne, an attractive town directly on the rhone with an astounding amount of Roman remains. Some very large ones in excellent condition. I was feeling a bit dissapointed with my progress as well as tired after the weekend in Lyon, so I lay down for 2 hours before heading out for dinner. Sunday night is dead in a lot of french towns and the only restaraunt that looked OK was an Alsace Lorraine themed place with a very distinct menu and good service. Had a good value meal with a pichet of wine and headed back home to catch up on missed sleep
